While December served as the midway point of the academic year for most students, for others it signified a remarkable milestone. As the fall semester drew to a close, hundreds of students celebrated officially completing their undergraduate and graduate studies at St. Joseph’s University, New York.
A total of 316 students graduated University-wide this December, with 240 stemming from the Long Island Campus, 42 deriving from the Brooklyn Campus and 34 completing SJNY’s fully online programs. Of those numbers, 241 were undergraduate students while 75 received their master’s degree.
A number of students shared their excitement about graduating from SJNY and fondly reflected on their experiences as they look toward the future. See below for a few of their reactions:
Gisela Cotrone
Studio Art major
Long Island Campus
“Graduating feels both surreal and exciting. St. Joe’s provided me with unforgettable experiences, and the encouragement from the staff played a huge role in my development as an artist. I plan to continue creating art and continuing my education.”
Gisela and her artwork were recently featured in the latest Fall 2025 edition of SJNY Magazine.
Valerie Fabian
Accounting major
Long Island Campus
“I had an amazing experience at St. Joe’s. Throughout my time, I’ve made so many close friends and memories. Also, I’ve learned tremendously from my professors and classmates. It feels very exciting to graduate! I am looking forward to a new chapter in my life and career, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my mentors and professors. After graduation, I will be continuing with a local accounting firm; Janet Fernandez, CPA, and will be studying for the CPA exam with hopes to become a Certified Public Accountant in the near future.”
Rick Haas
Industrial Psychology major
Fully Online Program
“Pursuing my education started many years ago, which required balancing full-time work and family, but finishing my degree feels deeply meaningful and long overdue. I am beyond proud of the perseverance it required and very grateful for the flexibility and support St. Joe’s provided throughout my journey. Professionally, my plan is to continue building on my career as well as my leadership while applying what I’ve learned from my teachings.”
Emma Walsh
Child Study major
Long Island Campus
“Graduating in December has been incredibly beneficial for me as a Child Study major. I was fortunate enough to begin interviewing for teaching positions and secure a job as a permanent substitute in my local school district as my final semester came to an end. Being able to step into the classroom right away has allowed me to gain valuable hands-on experience and apply my coursework in real time.”

All December graduates are invited and encouraged to join the Class of 2026 during this spring’s annual Brooklyn and Long Island-hosted Toasts to the Grads celebration as well SJNY’s 107th Commencement Ceremony.
