This spring, St. Joseph’s University, New York President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. will host his annual Presidential Recitals alongside accomplished soloist Veronica Kaninska, M.S.Ed., CTRS, SJNY senior teaching professor of both Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Hospitality and Tourism Management.
President Boomgaarden will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, including several of the master’s most famous and beloved pieces — Für Elise, the Moonlight Sonata, Op. 27, No. 2, and two songs: Ich liebe dich and Andenken.
He will also perform his own compositions inspired by the Viennese master, including a piano sonata and song settings of the same texts Beethoven used.
The program, which will take place on Thursday, April 23 in the Long Island Campus’ Muriel and Virginia Pless Center for Performing Arts; and Tuesday, April 28 in the Brooklyn Campus’ Tuohy Hall Auditorium, will also include a vocal performance from Professor Kaninska.
During this Common Hour presentation, Dr. Boomgaarden will also place Beethoven’s unique works into historical context, and discuss his own compositional process.
Both events are free and open to the public.
