P.S. I Love You Day is celebrated annually on the second Friday of February, and this year both campuses at St. Joseph’s University, New York honored the occasion with events of their own.
“P.S. I Love You Day is an organization dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health,” said Karmen Tovar, Interim Associate Director of Residence Life and Student Involvement on the Brooklyn campus. “Their mission is to instill hope for those affected by mental illness, fostering a supportive environment and a community where everyone feels welcomed, loved and supported.”

The Long Island Campus honored P.S. I Love You Day with an event in the Student Center’s multipurpose room.
In partnership with the Center for Counseling and Wellness, the Brooklyn campus enjoyed interactive activities like tote bag decorating, writing letters to their future selves and an affirmation wall that students were able to fill with things they are proud of and what they love about themselves.
Meanwhile, on the Long Island campus, the Campus Activities Board collaborated with the Peer Health Educators and the Educators clubs to deliver activities like build-your-own-heart pillow, mirror painting, affirmation card making and coloring activities.
Both campuses fostered a supportive, loving and inclusive environment where students were able to wear purple to celebrate the day while feeling welcomed and valued.
P.S. I Love You Day is especially important to celebrate on college campuses because the initiative promotes mental health awareness, prevents bullying and combats loneliness.
“It is important to celebrate this on campus, as college students are typically stressed with all of the assignments they have on top of working and other responsibilities,” said Michaela Barresi, Campus Activities Board Co-Program Director on the Long Island campus. “Having events that promote mental health awareness and self-love helps students to receive resources they can use to help with their own mental health while allowing them to also go to a fun event and meet new people.”
