As the spring semester begins to ramp up at St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY), its extracurricular activities are doing the same. On Jan. 28, the Student Government Association (SGA) on the University’s Long Island campus hosted its club fair for the semester. The event took place during common hour and was located in the McGann Conference Center.

Held in the McGann Conference Center, more than 40 clubs were present during the fair.
The fair displayed the wide variety of extracurricular organizations available to those interested in getting involved on campus beyond their course of study, with over 40 clubs represented. These clubs span a number of interests, including social groups such as the Diversity Union and Tabletop Games Club, academic-based organizations such as Nursing Club and Biology Club, the faith-based organization Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC) and club sports such as the equestrian team and the Eaglettes dance team. The University’s numerous fraternities and sororities on campus were also present among the clubs.
In addition to the plethora of student-run organizations, a number of offices around campus that are concerned with student life made themselves available to attendees of the club fair, including Global Studies—the office in charge of coordinating study abroad programs—and the Student Life office itself, making the event a one-stop location for everything related to student involvement at SJNY.

Clubs representing every corner of student life were present such as athletics, social, academic and community service.
“The spring semester club fair typically has smaller turnout than that of the fall semester, but the occasion still reflects the growth of student life on the Long Island Campus and a continued enthusiasm on the part of students to get involved on campus and find community with each other,” said William Phillips, Ph.D., associate chair and assistant professor of Journalism and New Media Studies at SJNY.
Professor Phillips also serves as the advisor of Studio 155, a club that focuses on learning about and creating various multimedia projects, including photography, video, audio and graphics.
For students who could not attend the fair or want to learn more about clubs and events on campus as the semester continues, information about every organization can be found by logging into the University’s Engage page.
Engage is available via the MySJNY portal.
